mutual slection process?

Honestly, "mutual selection" is just a term to sugar coat the selection process. I know a lot of y'all PNMs think that y'all are the ones who drop houses, but honestly, houses are the ones who drop the girls.

At the end of each round PNMs will rank the houses on their rosters from most favorite to least favorite. The houses are then basically doing the same thing. The houses know which girls they want and so basically just drop any of the girls who didn't meet their requirements/were weird/etc. The houses really decide who gets dropped and who moves on.

Also note that PNMs never officially drop a house. All they do is literally rank the houses. This way it "optimizes" the PNMs opportunities. This whole selection process is really hard to explain to someone who's never experienced it, and I'm sure there's someone else who can explain it better than I can lol. But basically the PNMs just rank their houses and the houses are the ones actually making the cuts.

For each invited round of parties, there is a maximum number of houses that a PNM may attend. This number gets smaller with each round, so PNM's rank the houses they attended in order of their preference of wanting to go back in the next round. The houses at the bottom of a PNM's list would theoretically be eliminated from the parties she would attend; however, the houses are ranking PNM's as well and are releasing girls after each round. Once you have been released from a house it doesn't matter how high you ranked them; the sororities have the last word. PNM's will find that houses they ranked highly did not invite them back, and that they are invited back to houses that they had ranked lowest and thought they were eliminating from their lists. PNM's do not cut houses, houses cut PNM's. If you want a bid at any house, GO TO ALL THE HOUSES YOU ARE INVITED TO NO MATTER WHAT. PNM's who drop houses that invite them back are least likely to get a bid anywhere ever. Keep an open mind and don't take it personally when you are released from certain houses.

Worth the read PNMs

It's a two way street- as houses do compete for the best pnms.

The better pnms, with full cards after open house (invited to the max number of houses each round - 12/8/3) do drop houses.

Note - there are many girls without full cards. The idea that full cards aren't automatic suggests houses cut pnms - not vice versa.

The best pnms - at pref - get their first choice and are choosing between their preferred houses. These pnms do "get what they want".

But the houses have allot of say .....they must want the pnm. If the house isn't interested, the pnm ranking them first doesn't help. \n\n\n\n\n

The exception to the rule that actives have all the power when it comes to rush is in the case of legacies. Some sororities have VERY strict rules when it comes to legacies and it is very difficult to drop them. If you're a legacy to a house, you're nearly guaranteed a bid there, as tradition is very important here at Alabama. Just DON'T mention your legacy status to the other houses, as they might assume you're not interested in them.
