sorority questions
by: PNM
1. How many girls get dropped day by day
2. Who gets the say in who drops you, you or the house? Like if I like a house but they drop me/if a house likes me but I don't like them
3. The bigger the class coming in to rush, do the houses let in more girls or have they kept the number the same each year on how many are allowed in?
4. Do new houses/houses currently under construction get a better class or does it not really matter since all the houses are so nice

Very generically answered:
1) No public day-by-day record is kept. The recruitment method for keeping/dropping is individual and private at each house.
2) Both. It's called mutual selection, but the houses have the greater percentage of choice because NPC GROUPS WANT EVERY QUALIFIED, OPEN-MINDED WOMAN ATTENDING RECRUITMENT TO JOIN A SORORITY.
3) Bid Day Total is decided based on the grand total number of women attending the final pref parties. Those numbers fluctuate on a yearly basis, so the number of bids given also fluctuates yearly.
4) The high-caliber quality of students going thru recruitment means each house gets classy students. Anyone joining a sorority based solely on the physical house they will live in has the wrong attitude about life-long sorority membership.

1. There isn't a set number of girls who get dropped every day. If you're talking about specific houses, there are a few houses that basically have their bid lists made up before rush even starts... So houses like that tend to drop more girls the first few days just because they're already set on specific PNMs.
2. PNMs do not drop houses, the houses drop PNMs. If a house likes you, you will be asked back, if not, then they've thus dropped you.
3. Each house has a quota set by their nationals and NPC. The pledge classes grow in size as the amount of PNMs who rush also grow. NPC here works really hard to ensure that there's a very high bid match rate.
4. New houses do not drastically impact the quality of pledge classes. The only house that has seen a decent improvement because of a new house is Gamma Phi... But as you said, all the houses are nice.

Question 2:
A. If you and a house both like each other, you're good.
B. If a house drops you, it doesn't matter if you ranked them #1, you will be dropped.
C. If you rank a house at the bottom of your list, but enough other houses drop you (see B), you will be invited back. Keep in mind, if this happens, that house has seen something in you that you might not have seen in them during the early parties! Many girls think a house isn't for them, then by bid day they can't picture themselves anywhere else!

And there are lots of great houses on campus!! GR won't let me post the link, but town and country listed the nine best sororities in the country yesterday, and eight of the nine are represented at UA. (And yes, even those not on the list are awesome too! Just saying you have a lot of choices).

Active which houses basically have their bid list made up before rush even starts??? How would they even know all the girls rushing? I'm coming from across the country and will not know anyone in a sorority or anyone rushing. Will I be overlooked??
