Having strong nationals means that a sorority has an overall good national reputation and they not only have chapters across the nation at big name schools, but that those chapters are also "top" at most schools. Another factor in strong nationals is their notable alumni. If a sorority has a long list of notable alumni, chances are that sorority has good nationals. Being in a sorority that has strong nationals ensures that, in the future, when you go out to apply to job/internships/etc, you'll have an easy time finding places and getting said jobs/internships because of the connections from your sorority.
Greek life here at UA is extremely competitive and requires a lot of dedication, that being said, for a sorority to have a chapter here, they basically need to have good/strong nationals, otherwise the chapter here would be a disaster. Delta Zeta's nationals aren't necessarily "weak," but in comparison to others, like Chi Omega's and Kappa Alpha Theta's nationals, they're weak. If you search a list of DZ notable alum, they have a very short list filled with women you most likely haven't heard of before, however ChiO and Theta have very, very long lists with very familiar names.
Saying DZ nationals seems great just because your friend is in a chapter at LSU doesn't mean anything. EVERY sorority has their good and their bad chapters. What truly matters is how strong their nationals is.

Do some research . DZ is very strong nationally and the U of A has a very strong alum support.
DZ has been in campus continuously since 1922.

No one is jealous of DZ. They are in the lowest tier here and nationally. At least Theta and Gamma Phi (and to a lesser extent)DG have a better national reputation. Give it up. DZ is a last ditch choice.

The fact that they have one of the largest alumni networks yet hardly any notable alumni of high ranks proves the point that dz has weak nationals even more. Of course dz has important alum - every sorority does. But dz lacks greatly compared to every sorority here at bama. From what I heard they have a really, really poor sisterhood. I actually live with a dz and she's always talking down about her sisters.

@sure after you graduate, what will help you more? A sorority with a lot of alumni and alumni chapters that can help you network no matter where you live, or a sorority that has famous alumni? If you are saying that famous alumni are an important factor in choosing a sorority, explain why. Don't just say it proves they are "strong nationally;" tell me how a group with famous members will help you in your day to day life after graduation.

I personally don't think these posts about DZ are that mean. Yes, of course, there are girls in DZ that absolutely love it. However, there are a lot of girls that hate it. I think that if the majority of people agree that a certain sorority has a certain reputation then you shouldn't fight it - It is what it is. The point in threads like these are for PNMs on this sight (and, yes, lets be honest, there are a lot of PNMs on here) to get an idea about sororities before rush. Of course their opinions of sororities shouldn't be dictated by this sight and will change once they rush, but this sight allows for people to get a general feel about sororities. The broad reputation people have of DZ here at bama is that they're not the best sorority. Everyone has different opinions, obviously, but the majority of people on here this sight and on campus have towards DZ is that they're the bottom house for various, good reasons.

I'm not a DZ, Theta, or GPhi so from my perspective I feel like these are the three bottom houses but they would rank: GPhi, Theta, and lastly DZ. No offense to DZ whatsoever, it's just that both GPhi and Theta have so much more to offer than DZ.
