Is having a 3.0 acceptable for rush? According to UA's Panhellenic they say if you have at least a 3.0 you are pretty much in the clear of getting dropped for THAT reason... but on here y'all act like if you don't have a 4.0 you are not going to get any of the top houses. What is the best GPA to aim for? What about GPA for sophomores rushing?

You will get cut by ADPi for sure. 3.2 is their nationals GPA. AXO here usually cuts if you are below a 3.5. This year Kappa raised their GPA to 3.3. Pledging takes a lot of time management and if you struggled getting a 3.0, you will struggle maintaining a 3.0 in college. That's a fact. Most houses will only accept a few grade risks because they might not continue at UA if they do poorly. I went through recruitment as a sophomore with my 3.5 college GPA and I did very well.

3.0 is the bare minimum. If you have a 3.5 you'll have a better rush. Agree with post above - if you only have a 3.0 not being in a sorority, you may struggle with your grades once you're in one.

That was really good advice from 1 and 2. Thank you for being honest and not rude about it :)

Should you talk about your grades when you go through recruitment or just leave it to them to look at your transcripts?

There really isn't enough time at parties to explain why you had poor grades. What is done is done. If you chose to explain it in your rec letter to alumna writing your recs, fine. It's better to work on getting your grades up now and getting involved in some type of charity work. If you have good conversation skills, a GPA that has been going up every year ( and is a 3.0 or better), and have your recs, maximize your options, you will do fine in recruitment and end up in a house. If your GPA has been all over the map and you barely have a 3.0 ( or less), you should wait and go through as a sophomore with a better GPA. It's still Alabama, you will still make great friends from your dorm, and you will still have fun even not being Greek. I had a 3.0 HS GPA ( 2.5 freshman grades brought it way down) and I waited until my freshman GPA was higher to go through recruitment. I did very, very well by waiting.
