recruitment
by: HeyI have heard many different things on how recruitment would go for me as a sophomore. Some people are telling me I don't have much to worry about, it depends on the girl and then others are telling me I'll be lucky to even get a single bid as a sophomore. I'm not going to transfer to Bama if my chances are that slim. Joining a sorority I figured would be the best way to make friends being that I won't know anyone so if I won't even get a bid then is it worth transferring to Alabama?

This is false. Girls will convince you its MANDATORY to have recommendations and that you won't make as a sophomore. Super false. I'm out of state, I knew nobody coming in, I didn't have one recommendation, and didn't get dropped from any houses till Sisterhood, oh and by the way, I got dropped from one house. Girls will convince you, you need recs, its a lie. You need recs if you're bad at talking to people, have a terrible GPA, and weren't involved. If you aren't any of those things, you'll do fine. I will fill you in though, Kappa Delta and Tri Delt require at least two rec letters, but if they really like you, they'll make an acception.
I'm a sophomore girl, I feel you. Good luck!

First, please transfer because you want the university not to be a Greek.
You have a good chance to get in a sorority if you are attractive, present yourself well, smart (above 3.0), can make people feel comfortable in a conversation, can afford the dues, and are energetic about contributing.
Please sign up early early in the spring so you have a chance to be invited to spring teas. And if you are -- you must attend if at all possible.
Yes, get recs. It's not hard. Just do it and early.

First, come to Alabama because it is a great place to study and get your degree. Then, come to Alabama because it is also fun. I went through formal recruitment as a sophomore after being here for freshman year. I wanted to be in a sorority after seeing that it would add to my already great experiences. I had a good GPA that would get me into any house. I'm from out of state and I started in the spring (while at school) to get recs. Those were from my aunts, cousins, and my mom's FB friends and co-workers. I sent them each a sorority packet and thank you note inside. I was organized because this is something I wanted. From May to July, I started contacting alumna chapters in my hometown area. I met for coffee and gave them my packet and thank you note. I also got several recs from my summer job, as there were sorority girls there, too. It took me about three months, working on it for an hour or so each week, checking off my list and following up with contacts that were not responding. It shows the houses that YOU know how to reach out to people. I did get at least one rec to every house. I spent time planning my wardrobe for each round. I had an almost full schedule and met amazing girls. It was hot, it was rainy, and it was worth it.
