free sorority??

Do sororities ever give out scholarships or free membership ?

I've heard that Alphi Phi let someone stay in without paying because she said she didn't have any money

Sorority Foundations have scholarship money members can apply for (just like other scholarships it takes work to apply and you have to meet criteria). These are for school though, not dues or housing. But if you are paying less for school the idea is you can still pay for housing or dues.

My nationals also have emergency scholarships that you can apply for... Say there is a death in the family and a girl may have to leave school due to reduced funding from her parents.

In all cases you have to be a member first. Nothing is free.

My house is the same way. We give out a few small academic scholarships each year ($1,000-2,500 range) but no break on dues or sorority expenses.

I mean what I am about to say sincerely: if it is going to be a huge financial burden for you to join a sorority (and remember, dues are just the tip of the iceberg as far as house expenses), don't go through rush. You'll probably pledge and end up needing to drop because of finances and you will have taken another girl's spot.
