drop
by: freshmanI'm currently pledging a bottom tier sorority now and I'm not in love with it. I decided to accept the bid and pledge for a while to really get a better feel of the sorority but it's just not clicking with me. On sisterhood day I had two houses and then by preference day I only had this one house, so I didn't have any options. I'm thinking of dropping before initiation and rushing again in the fall. How would this look on my part? I know sororities talk and would having pledged and dropped a sorority hurt my chances during fall recruitment???

Yes, it could hurt. Is there a reason you only had 2 houses at sisterhood? Like low HS grades? If so, and you do very well grade wise this year, and make real strong connections with sisters in the houses you liked better, there is a chance rushing sophomore year could go better for you. But realize you could end up with no house next year too.

Hang in there until the end of the semester. I didn't like my sorority either, at first. It took several months to find my niche in the house. After Christmas, I felt at home and like I'd made the right choice. I'd hate to see you drop and then regret it. You just need to give it more time.

Wait until you get your big. This makes things so much different I promise. My freshman year I didn't have a ton of friends in my pledge class. Honestly I just spent a lot of time win my big and her big. Eventually I found my group and now as a junior I have a super tight group of best friends.

Dear freshman (the OP),
Do us all a favor and drop right now. You're obviously one valuable gal, and the sororities were fighting over you.
Seriously, DON'T wait until Christmas. You'll be initated by then and if you quit, you can't join any other NPC group anywhere, EVER.
But DO give your group at least another 2 or 3 weeks. You can't pledge anywhere else for a year, so why not try it out a little while longer?
I know of 6 last year who quit their new row group and went through this year. 1 pledged old row (she had several friends there from hometown), 1 pledged mid tier, 1 pledged low tier, and 2 got nothing.
So sure, you MIGHT get a "better" house...or you might get nothing.
