old row has tons of oos girls

by: Old Row OOS

I'm not sure why y'all keep saying Old Row only pledges in-state girls. I'm in an old row house and the MAJORITY of our girls are from OOS. We have girls from every corner of the country. We don't cut girls during rush based on where they're from - we cut based on low grades, lack of involvement and bad reputations.

Wish everyone would just be nice and love the house they are in and stop making these boards a dumping ground for their bad attitudes. We are ONE greek system and we should support and love each other and act that way.

They use it as a rush strategy. And it works. It makes girls feel like they won't be welcome or fit in with old row. That's why the rise with ZTA and aphi.

I do see it as a rush "strategy". it is just how the actives in the new row houses actually feel based on their experiences both when going through recruitment themselves and in real life. I agree with the comments on here that in-state don't have to go old row and vice versa, but it will take years to continue the change because of the mommy networks and the home town peer pressure felt by many in-state girls to aspire for an old row house.

@taf. Unbelievable. He you are claiming that new row is the creation of new row to attract PNM

Agreed! Lots of out-of-state girls in almost every old row house. Great sisterhoods and diversity in these houses, so no need for the hate.

There are 31 views and 202 likes? There is some funny business going on!

All for Panlove, and this is better than the hate driven posts.

But what gives? Old row starting to build a case to OOS pnms?

IMO it's not hate. It's branding/reputation

New Row finally established a brand identity. New Row is the it place to be if you are from out of state. New Row is inclusive for OOS and seeks you out. Yay for talented,
smart, fresh/new OOS women.

Old Row had their brand and let everyone know it for years -- tradition, exclusively southern, old school Alabama (MB, etc). Yay for legacy Alabama, already part of the club, women.

You missed what the original post said - the majority of her old row house is OOS girls. You don't have to go new row if you're from OOS and you don't have to go old row if you're from in-state.

Let me repeat that. YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO NEW ROW IF YOU'RE FROM OUT OF STATE AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO OLD ROW IF YOU'RE FROM IN STATE.

Girls from everywhere are welcome in both old and new row. So everyone stop trying to divide us by old and new row and just be happy with the house you're in - whether new or old row!

No doubt every house has tons of OOS and maybe even a majority of OOS. The thing is the old row have far less in proportion. Like an old row might be 50/50, while a new row might be 80/20 -- so the new row houses are just more diverse. Its not that old row has no diversity, they are just very heavily weighted with in-state.

Old Row Sororities have always had OOS members, but how many are from certain parts of Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia?

Good point. I think some of their idea of oos is Atlanta or Nashville or Jackson. It is something but not much since they are all already part of same camp networks and whatnot.

The small town Alabama girls and the middle size Alabama city (bham, mobile) suburban princesses have a hard time connecting with girls from major Florida, California, northeast and Midwest cities. Just sayin.

Your response is just petty and a waste of space on this board. Sorry you didn't get a bid from old row.

Sure they have oos girls because the majority of pnms are oos, just as the majority of the student population is oos. There are certain houses that favor, strongly, in state girls. Those houses certainly have a good share of oos but you will see a distinct divide as time passes.

@OP, Yes old row has many OOS. Old row also cuts for not having the southern, Alabama connections, and then chooses to party exclusively with others of the same connection.

New Row becomes a thing that others desire. Especially OOS women. New Row is rockin' this rep. Can they have a positive rep too or is that only for Old Row?

If old row is claiming to be the same as new row when it comes to OOS, then what defines old row?

Some houses described as new row, have actually been at Alabama longer than old row.

Distinctions are getting very blurry.

Good Point, sororities were never defined by Old Row/New Row until recently. Old Row only was in reference to some Fraternities that stayed on University when most Fraternities moved to Jefferson way back when. I.E Old Fraternity Row, New Fraternity Row.

Sororities just had sorority row.

Old row is not new. It was a thing when my aunt was there, so it's been around a really long time. It was the top tier chapters then too and never really had anything to do with which ones were the oldest.

Old Row, as in the party and the in-group, has been a thing (I think) since the late '70s or early '80s.

Old Row, as in the designation for the fraternities on University, has been around for decades. Same for First Circle.

Yes, this is true. New row, old row think it matters less every year. Especially when the caliber of pnms in general rises every year in terms of looks, grades, leadership. The in state girls are the ones who usually lag in those areas.
