The new chapter total is so high that almost half of the chapters will be doing fall cob this year. Most will only take 4 or 5. This DOES NOT mean these chapters are bad, nor does it mean they didn't make quota. Just wanted to get this out there before tumors start to fly because we all know they will.

If you want to blame someone, look at Panhellenic.

Houses available for fall COB (but does NOT guarantee they will do it)

Alpha Phi
Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Zeta
Gamma Phi Beta
Phi Mu
Pi Beta Phi
Zeta Tau Alpha

And this is NOT rumor. All you have to do is ask the office of fraternity and sorority life. It's not a secret. And of course SDT and ADX are also doing recruitment right now as well.

Wow, is this right? Where is the total listed? And where are you getting the sorority totals?

How can some of these houses COB if over quota? Like GPhi had 169 new sisters on bid day. Isn't quota 146? I thought a bunch @Blank listed were over that amount (APhi, ZTA, DZ)...

Good luck getting a cob bid to some of those. It's an insider's game there. Best friends of top pnms who just could not get here, etc.

What you newbies don't get is that ability to cob is based on total membership. I don't know Theta's total number, if they are over the Panhellenic total, they aren't eligible to Cob. OP is right, info of chapter membership is probs on Panhellenic site. And just because a house is under total doesn't mean they have to COB, it's their choice, and most will choose not to. The newer or less wealthy sororities are most likely to do so. Aphi, dz, gphi, Zeta, pi phi, assuming this list is actually correct.

Simma down old row mama (@this could be), We know this does not mean any of your precious pearls would be so pedestrian as to consider cob....

@? and @Cob I honestly don't know the chapter totals or why these houses can cob but that's what I was told when I asked the office in the ferg. Didn't ask for specifics on why or how - sorry. Just call/email and ask

Don't know if this is true. The chapter total membership is what was reset this week though. This could be why sororities that took such a large pledge class are eligible to COB, because their total membership, all actives plus new members is below the total allowed by Panhellenic.

If any of old row do cob will be super quiet, like phi Mu in spring, they took one or two bffs of connected actives.

Not trying to be offensive by saying newer or less wealthy chapters are more apt to COB. The chapters that have a long history at UA have more alum support, making them wealthier. I'm not making a value judgment about the newer chapters, simply commenting that they need membership dues more than the old row groups. There are perfectly lovely new chapters on campus that are trying really hard.

Of course you're being offensive. You talk about "newer or less wealthy chapters." Since DZ, Zeta and Pi Phi aren't newer (94, 106 and 67 years at UA) you are calling them less wealthy. Based on what? Your standards of wealth, but that's not offensive, is it? Thank God that these chapters that "need membership dues more than old row groups" are somehow able to scrape by.

By the way, bless your heart for your gracious approval of the "perfectly lovely new chapters on campus."

Total is reset after recruitment based on the average size of all the chapters. By definition, about half the chapters will have openings once total is reset. It doesn't matter how big they get or how many they took during recruitment. It's the systems way of allowing all chapters to achieve the same overall size. Wether everyone takes advantage of the opportunity is another question.

wow! 444 is huge. i thought 190 last semester was too big. the sheer size of the sororities is getting out of hand. our huge mansions won't be big enough to fit us for chapter.

@this could be,
You are clueless. Every chapter runs yearly/semester based on dues and budgets. Alumnae support does not pay for these general operations. Of course all
Chapters can raise donations from Alumnae for special events like recruitment, etc., so we don't have to use all of the operations budget.

Many chapters take pride in budgeting, forecasting, planning as the actives gain valuable experience for future careers.
