question about drops
by: Kk
How many openings (on average) does each chapter
have? If 2800 girls are going thru rush, how many of those will get a bid? Will each chapter cut a lot more Thursday? I have 3 I'm going to for sisterhood. I like all of them. I'm scared I wont get a bid. 😢

Everyone has the same number of "openings." Quota is based on the number of PNMs who complete at least one preference party and submit a ranking divided by the total number of sororities, with a few additions to some given the way quota additions work in the computer's mathematical formula.

Quota (the number of openings) will be the same at every house. It's the number of girls with pref invitations divided by 16 (# of houses). Every single PNM who is invited to 1+ house(s) for Pref is guaranteed a bid as long as she maximizes her options. That means you must list every pref house you attend on your pref card and you are guaranteed a bid to one of those houses. It's kind of a reward for trusting the process all week!
At this point, more girls won't get bids because they will drop out of rush because they don't like the houses they have left....which is silly cause all of our houses are awesome and if you can't make friends in a pledge class of 130+ girls, the problem is you- not the chapter. My guess based on previous years is that less than 100 girls are totally cut from all houses during the week...it's pretty rare.

Also, every chapter has a slightly different number of PNMs they have to cut every round. This is based on historical data of PNM return rates. Some houses need to invite back more to achieve the same quota than others.
If you attend preference at a house, you are somewhere on their bid list. However, if you aren't high enough on there to be above where quota occurs at that house, then you won't receive a bid there (unless you're added as a quota addition because you listed all the houses you preffed and all of those houses reached quota before they got to your name on their bid list.)
