and remember a lot of houses have a once cut always cut rule so you probably will not do any better and in fact might do worse next year because despite all of the B-S-T on this site houses talk and don't like it when a girl drops-- it means she either has too high of an opinion of herself or she can't make and stick with commitments...

Technically you can, but you need to be really honest and realistic with yourself about why your freshman rush did not go well and what will be different next year.
Did you get cut because you didn't have recs? That's fixable.
Did you get cut for being a grade risk? Honey, if you didn't get good grades in high school, what possibly makes you think you are going to get a 3.5-3.7+ to become a competitive sophomore PNM?
Did you get cut because you dressed inappropriately? That's fixable but you now have an uphill battle to correct their first impression of you.
Did you not have connections? What's your plan to make connections this year?
Are you shy/reserved? How do you plan to transform your personality this year? This is a really tough one.
Or do you just have unrealistic expectations? Every girl dreams of being in a handful of houses that are really good at rushing and selling themselves as a top house. The reality is that unless you're a "10" with connections and recs, you aren't a good fit for those houses. They may have made you FEEL like they wanted you, but their job is to make every PNM feel that way.
If you have options left, they are your best chance at going Greek. Sophomores can and do have successful rushes, but those are usually girls who didn't go through as freshmen.
