If you don't get a bid you will be notified ahead of time so that you know not to go.

The only way to make it to bid day and not to get a bid is if you don't maximize your options. For example if Polly PMN goes to all parties throughout the week and ranks all houses you'll get a bid. That's why it's important to go to all houses even if you hate them.

If you rank every house you attend on Pref on your pref card, you are guaranteed a bid to one of those houses. It may be your last choice house that is the one that offers you a bid - and if that happens, it's because you weren't ranked high enough on your 1st and 2nd choices' bid lists, NOT because your third choice "wanted you more". If all 3 houses' bid lists are full by the time your name comes up, you will bid match to YOUR 1st choice as a "quota addition" - a reward for choosing to maximize your options by listing all three houses.

If you "suicide" on pref night and choose to not rank every house you preffed, you are not guaranteed a bid. If you aren't high enough on the bid lists for the houses you preffed to get a bid, you won't get one. If you choose not to list all houses on your pref card, you are saying you would rather never be Greek at all than be in the house(s) you choose not to rank. If you end up suiciding and don't receive a bid, you will be called earlier on Bid Day and told you don't need to come to bid opening.

This is the stupidest move you can possibly make. If you don't list one house because you KNOW you could never be comfortable there, it says way more about you than about that house. Every house has all kinds of girls and I guarantee you can find ones that will be your lifetime friends. You will never have such close friends from student housing.

The truth is that all our houses are amazing. You read on here about houses that are bottom tier, old row, top tier, new row, etc. None of that matters. You will have a great time regardless of which house, tier, or row.

In other words, please don't let the stuff you read on here influence you to drop any house because you think it would be more embarrassing to be in that house than to be independent. It isn't true at all. Just go for it. Be yourself and decide for yourself. If you join an aspirational house you won't be happy because you won't fit in.
