OK, let me amend my statement.
For certain things, all sororities fine their members.
If you don't show up for chapter meetings and don't have a legitimate excuse, you'll be fined.
If you don't show up for certain mandatory events and don't have a legitimate excuse, you'll be fined.
If you don't show up for recruitment preparation workshops in the spring and don't have a legitimate excuse, you'll be fined.
If you don't show up for recruitment work week in July-August and don't have a legitimate excuse, you'll be fined.
If you don't show up to participate in recruitment and don't have a legitimate excuse, you'll be fined, BIG TIME.
Swaps and social events are usually not required, so you will not be fined. Anything that's not required, you won't be fined.
But if you only come to required stuff, why would you want to be a member?

Some sororities aren't allowed to fine by their nationals, like kappa. I assume that's what the first commenter meant. So even if you do all of those things you still will not be fined. Ever.

My sorority would 100% never fine someone for missing a swap or social event. That's absurd. If you don't want to go have fun, fine then don't haha. Maybe you have a test or something, but it's definitely your choice. You're encouraged to go, because it's fun and they're your sisters. Yes almost every house will fine you for missing rush, because everyone would skip the long, hard days if they weren't mandatory. My house doesn't fine for missing chapter, but you do go to standards.
