bid day
by: BamaSo what is bid day like? What do you do before and after running to the house?

i'm not sure what time you meet at the stadium i think around 9:30. before you meet up with your rho chi group in the bleachers once you reach the stadium, they'll have their signs up so you can find them. then you find your envelope with you bid in it some where on the bench, and where your envelope is that is where you sit until they tell you to open your bids. at 10:00, the announcer will tell you to open your envelope (there's a lot of screaming and yelling and crying fyi). once you know your house, you usually ask others in your rho chi group if they're in your house too, and you all kinda group together. then the announcer lists off the houses in alphabetical order and you all run down into sort of the outside of the stadium. once all the houses have been called and you're all waiting the running starts. i think that's in alphabetical order too but i'm not sure. basically there are a couple actives holding up the letters and you all run behind them to the house. once you reach the house they have the actives there holding up signs with new member names on it. you look around until you find your name and the girl that's holding it will be your kind of mentor for the day usually. after the whole running and getting to the house part, the house usually has food and a sort of meet and greet for the new members, and a lot of new members families come and eat with them and see their new house. after, some sororities go on retreats right away, but usually there....

are bid day parties in the houses behind tut. you either go on a retreat or go drink lol. some sororities nationals has been cracking down on bid day parties though, so i'm not sure what the protocol behind that now is. i heard they're going to try to make sure there are no bid day parties at all. but basically bid day is a huge scramble of people and lots of pictures being taken. some advice is to really live in the moment, meet as many girls as you can, take pictures, and enjoy it!

you should wear cute shorts, but not colored! since you don't know what your new house colors will be. (unless you only have one house left and you get a bid, in which case you can find shorts to match their colors). you should also just wear a simple tank top underneath because your new house will give you shirts to wear once you get there. i suggest either simple sandals or comfy flats for shoes.

it's mostly girls whose moms were also in sororities, or families who live close to the school. maybe only about 30-40 out of the 150 new members will have their families there
