recs

by: pnm

I'm going through recruitment this fall and I am having a hard time finding recs. I have never really been around sorority girls because I'm from such a small town so I don't have connections to any sorority alumna. What should I do??

Have you really asked everyone you know if they were in a sorority? Make sure you've checked through everyone on this list before proceeding to option 2 and 3.

-teachers & coaches from high school

-your friends' moms / aunts/ sisters. Don't assume. I was missing a rec for a house that is bigger here but small nationally and had literally no idea my bff's mom was one! I had never asked and just assumed she wasn't in a sorority.

-women from your church

-your neighbors

-your mom and grandmas' friends

-women involved in any other community things that you or your family do (Junior League or NCL, volunteer work, gym or YMCA, families you babysit for, etc).

If all this fails, try posting on your Facebook and having your mom do the same that you are going through rush at Bama and in need of recs from the following sororities. You'll probably find a few this way!

If you can literally not find one personal connection to a house for a rec, contact your town or county's Panhellenic Association. They can usually hook you up with some alumnae if you are extremely polite and ask nicely.

Remember, recs do not have to be from alumnae of the Alabama chapters. Someone who was a Chi O at Arkansas or a Kappa from Yale or Timbuktu State (literally ANY school, anywhere) can write your recs.

Work quickly. It's the middle of June and if you have to use the Panhellenic option as a last resort, you want to give them enough time- especially with it being summer.
