2nd time pnm

by: iOS soph

So I went through recruitment last year and got my 3rd choice. I dropped because I didn't have anything in common with those girls. I want to rush again this year, what are my odds of getting into a better house? I do have a couple of friends in sororities now and got offered a cob bid, which I couldn't accept! Advice?

You didn't have anything in common with ANY of the 125 girls in your pledge class last year?? Newsflash- the problem is YOU, not that house.

If the only house that gave you a bid is the one you thought you were too good for, why do you think it's going to go better this time? Sophomores can and do have successful rushes, but they are usually the ones going through for the first time, not the ones re-rushing (and especially not the ones who depledged!)

I have friends in other houses. The girls in that sorority are not my type of person. Greek life is really important to me!

You got greekrank's advice above and you didn't seem to like it. My question is why you weren't asking your friends in the houses you want to be in???

My friends have said they will help me, will that be enough to get into their house or will sororities really hold against me that I dropped my house last year? I didn't know anything about being Greek, didn't have recs for all houses. I found out during recruitment that the house has a bad reputation, I didn't think I would get them since they were my last choice.

We don't know how much pull your friends have in their house(s). There are 200-300 active women in each house so if you have a small group of sophomores pulling for you who aren't super involved it may not help. Everyone has a rush crush (or three) and it's impossible to pledge them all. Also, some houses have a national policy of "once cut, always cut" so even if you have friends in the house now, they won't be able to override the national policy.

Did you at least get recs lined up for all houses this year?

Why on earth would a house offer you a bid during COB when you dropped your pledge class? They would know that you couldn't accept it. Something doesn't sound right.

Dear OP,
You asked "what are my odds in getting into a BETTER house?"

Answer: Zero

Dear OP,
You have a chance.

But it will be so awkward going to some of the houses again. Think about what you will say and keep it short and respectful.

Just know: other sororities will wonder why you could not get along with your chapter. They will doubt your ability to commit. They will doubt your ability to be a loyal member. They will likely choose someone who wants it more and has not had the chance you had.

Give it a go. Try again. If you don't you will regret not trying. If it works out great. Lucy you. If not, go join other orgs.

OP, you came back on here and said:
"I found out during recruitment that the house has a bad reputation, I didn't think I would get them since they were my last choice."

You have very little to no chance. You were not high enough on other chapter bid lists due to "your reputation". Don't you get it?
