I don't know what Kappa's national policy is, but I do know that some sororities REQUIRE a rec in order to pledge. My house is one of those. Even if we love you, no rec - no bid.
And really, if you're specifically asking about Kappa, why don't you have a rec? It is one of the 4 largest sororities in the entire country so it's not like it's difficult to find an almumn to write one.
Rush is competitive and recs are the one thing pnms can control to ensure they are not cut for not having one.

That is private membership selection info. I'm just telling you , at least one sorority here (mine) has a national rec requirement in order to pledge. All pnms who are below our required GPA to pledge or don't have recs are cut before round 2.
Have you asked everyone that you & your parents know for recs? If you're having trouble finding recs to a few houses, try asking your other rec writers if they know any women in those sororities. Sorority women know each other. If all else fails, post on your Facebook and your mom's that you're going through rush and looking for recs for the houses you're missing. Work it. Plenty of girls go through rush each year who aren't from the South and they find recs.

That may be true for YOUR house but it's not true for MINE. Recs are a requirement to pledge at a few houses. They aren't even all considered top tier houses here but that doesn't change the national rules of some sororities.

Most houses require them at Bama. This is the south.
And if a girl does not have one and a chapter Really wants to pledge her they have to go find one during recruitment. Now you would think that gets you off the hook... Well it doesn't!!!
Chapters don't have much time to hunt down recs during rush, so they may only do this for a very special situation. So go get your recs. SHOW us you want to be Greek!
Network with all the moms and graduates you know. Ways to get recs if networking does not work out for you: contact local alumnae chapters in your city via their websites or Facebook. Contact your local city Panhellenic. Be really respectful. Make it easy for them to help you. Once you get a rec, send a thank you.

what houses require them?? I really thought they were optional and I'm from up North where greek life was not really a big part of a lot of peoples' college experience so it's hard to find ones for every single house
