by: PNMWhat's the deal with Sigma Delta Tau?? I know they don't participate in formal rush but why? Also why does it seem most, if not all, of their members are overweight? Is this the kind of sorority for girls who didn't get a bid during formal recruitment?

A few years ago SDT did formal rush with all of the other chapters. Unlike today (where most girls will accept whatever bid they get) girls were suiciding so they wouldn't get SDT. They weren't showing up to the lawn on bid day (which is so rude no matter what house you get) and were dropping like flies. Eventually SDT didn't have the money or members to keep up with the other sororities at Bama. Because of this same reason, pnms tend to want to be in one of the larger sororities and do formal recruitment. Since SDT had their recruitment after formal, girls who don't receive a bid often turn to SDT. All of that being said, it is full of sweet girls and are said to have a great sisterhood.

The last time they participated in formal was close to 10 years ago and a couple of years after they lost their house. Rebranding as an alternative to the big chapters has worked well for them, though.
