gap year?

So I'm graduating from high school next month and I'm pretty sure I'm doing a gap year and then going to bama... I was just wondering if taking a gap year is going to affect my recruitment process. I'm planning on working as well as doing major volunteer stuff (mission trips) while also taking a few courses at a local college. Does anyone have experience w a gap year and/ or advice on rushing after the year?

You can always get into Old Row they have such a bad reputation they blanket bid anyone coming through the door
