boys recruitment

My dad graduated from Alabama, top of his class, but was non-Greek. We love Alabama. I am attending there from out of state as I am on a full academic scholarship. What are my chances of getting into a good house when I have no Greek connections?

I am a girl so you should take this with a grain of salt, but based on the guys I know who mostly are older row -- your dad probably needs to be working some connections if you wanted to do that (old row). Sounds like you are more of a new row guy anyway, if your dad was not greek. there are several very good new row houses that you could focus on, but even those require some insider pull. so I would work on your insider relations if you wanted to get a bid from a top house (new or old row) and if you don't have any of that going, you are probably fine for the lesser known Jefferson houses, that are more open (but many are still good frats).

None of the fraternities pay much attention to alumni unless your dad gives a lot of money.
Prior connections are the main thing - friends from high school who are now in Alabama fraternities. Lacking that - or even including that - try to go to some fraternity parties on campus. E-mail houses with your information to get invitations. Go while you're at BamaBound. Maybe even come another weekend during the summer if you can.

If you really want to be in "the old row", your dad needed to donate lots of money, starting years ago. If he went to Bama but was not Greek, he probably did not come from money. I'll bet he has done well, being top of the class. You should ask him to use any connections he has and donate some money to the university. This will help you some. Your best bet is to stay with some solid new row fraternity guys as much as you can, these are good. Not the top but good. Be ready to drink! Don't get too wild!!!

Not sure which school you will graduate from but kinda does matter. With no fraternal ties, and being from Mississippi, you need a kick ass resume and fantastic sat score. This will help get you into a good new row feat. Don't even try for old row.
