bid day

by: ??

do the moms find out before the daughters what house they're getting a bid from? seeing mom's show up to bid day in the colors of their daughter's new sorority seems like too big of a coincidence sometimes...

Why would it matter if someone posted the same thread on another page? She has just about as much business posting the same thread on both pages as you do checking both pages. You clearly don't have room to say anything.

The moms you see wearing house colors on bid day to know what their deal is going to be for their daughter -- like 95 percent of the time. These are the legacy moms that have been working it for baby girl since forever and they just know what is going to happen and they have "earned it" in various ways for a long time. I think it is a sad sight, personally.

I don't know how it goes necessarily but my parents had a friend of mine in the house tell them that I got a bid there the night before.

Is that allowed?

No but a lot of times girls get excited and tell parents, friends, etc. Last year I texted a friend to tell them they might want to swing by our house because a mutual friend was on our list. I think as long as they don't ruin it for the PNM it's fine.

.... Not true. Sororities don't know until 9 am bid day morning who is on their bid list. No sorority is ever supposed to tell anyone who is on their bid list because they have absolutely no idea and it's a form of bid promising. That happened two years ago and a mom showed up on a certain lawn in the colors waiting for her daughter when her daughter didn't even get a bid to that sorority. Never believe anything until YOU open your bid card inside the stadium.

It's actually like 5 AM but if this girl was a legacy or something or like #5 on the list after pref and was intentionally going that house, it's possible her friend could have texted her parents the night before. Like the bid lists aren't out yet but sometimes it's kind of guaranteed.

Open the bid. Text your mom. She heads there. You head there.

The truly crazy moms (and there are A LOT of them) will spend the weekend in Tuscaloosa just so they can be here for bid day.

I think that it is common for the parents to show up on the lawn that their daughter ranked first after pref. If their daughter gets their second or third choice, then the daughter texts the mom real quick with which house she got and the mom moves lawns. Either that or they just show up to bid day and don't head to a house yet until their daughter opens her card and texts her.

As for wearing a certain sororities colors...they could either just be banking on the daughters 1st choice, or the daughter is a legacy to that sorority and it is one of the ones that puts legacies at the top of the bid list that make it to pref, they could have been told before they got dressed that morning that their daughter had a bid, etc.

Some sororities have a national rule where if you invite a legacy to pref and do not offer her a bid you are required to contact her mom/sister/etc and explain why. I've only lived through this once but its awful. But by that same logic, if a legacy mom doesn't get a call, you know your girl made it.

Simple.
Go to your D's #1 choice. Check out the signs. D's name not on a sign?
Go to your D's #2 choice. Repeat
Go to your D's #3 choice. If you haven't found it by now, she dropped out early and just signed up for rush so she could get away from you and start partying. And you're just now finding out.

come on yall. freal the moms use to flout their insider status and that they truly do know what is going to happen. they probably got a dm when the sign was being made. that is why they come in the colors. if they don't know, they do not wear the colors.
