Cornell worth it? (Prep School senior)

by: Lakeside senior

Been toiling over the decision to commit or not.... I just feel like Cornell undergrad doesn’t command the respect that schools like Harvard, Princeton, Penn, Columbia and Stanford do... plus the 3 people I know who committed to Cornell from my school aren’t the most impressive though they are smart, but in comparison to Lakeside alum (including Bill Gates) at the aforementioned schools they are completely dwarfed ... I’m currently choosing between Cornell and nearby full scholarship UW Seattle ... if anyone was in a similar position in a previous year please comment something enlightening about this school... I don’t want to pass on an Ivy League education but at the same Cornell seems culturally and academically closer to schools like Brandeis and CMU, than Stanford or Columbia

Tbh Cornell is more like Carnegie Mellon than it is like Harvard but that’s true for a lot of other good schools including WashU and UCLA/UCB... Cornell is no doubt a much better school than UW Seattle and honestly the prestige might not be platinum but the academics are very very good and the social scene is sick

Bruh it’s not like you’re turning Cornell down for Northwestern, you’re talking about going to UW Seattle that no one outside of Seattle has even heard of.

Pretty much everyone here had a full ride to a safety school. This shouldn’t even be a debate

Honestly if you don’t think that highly about Cornell, you should just go to UW... all I will say is UW is NOT like UCLA or Berkeley or Michigan... your passing on Cornell for a school that most people would easily overlook

You’re actually a moron if you go to UW over Cornell

Good move, also this year Cornell had a 8.5% acceptance rate, so you're part of the most selective class ever.

You can go to UW for grad school if you want to stay in Seattle, but Cornell is hands down the superior undergrad and will always make your resume stand out. The lesser prestige compared to Harvard or Stanford is minimal, especially to an employer that went to a normal school. All they'll think is "Ivy" when they see you went to Cornell.

i chose cornell dyson over umich ross (umich is 1/4 the price because of in-state tuition) and i don’t regret my decision

I was one of the smartest kids here and was equally unimpressed. Take your silver spoon somewhere that has others like you if you can. Otherwise welcome to the worst of the best.
