Is the North Campus expansion the end of geeklofe

by: questin

One of the reasons the school has been hesitant about removing houses is becuase they act as housing for sophomores. The expansion on north is meant to move sophomores onto north, so is that what their going for?

the bigger concern should be if they make on-campus housing mandatory for sophomores and don’t allow a greek life exception

houses can get around an increased willingness to kick houses off by cleaning up their act (should do it anyways to rehabilitate the imagine of greek life and attract more students)

That’s what I was getting at, there isn’t enough space for sophomores to live on campus currently so they can’t make it mandatory. After north expansion they promised for “enough space for all sophomores”...

There will be a greek life exception unless you get kicked like Llenroc.

I think it helps greeklife slightly but basically kills the ctown vibe. If they make it mandatory for fresh and soph to live on campus, then people will just live in the house junior and senior year and frat presence in ctown will decrease because kids will opt to live in house

My house went to a meeting about this. Greek houses and co-ops count to the 2 years of required on campus living. I think if anything it’ll push more kids to rush cause they don’t want to live in dorms again.

They’re making on campus mandatory for 2 years and Greek houses and co-ops count as on campus for this.

The university has already made all the decisions and posted their whole plan online. Here’s the quote: “ Beginning Fall 2021, all incoming first-year students will be required to spend two years in university-affiliated housing, including on-campus residences, the cooperative houses and Greek residential houses.“

Helps big time. Sophomores are given two options: \n\n\n\n\n1. Live in Cornell housing paying for an overpriced meal plan and board\n\n\n\n\nor \n\n\n\n\n2. Join a frat/srat, get a guaranteed single (in most houses), cheaper food, and an actual social life.\n\n\n\n\nBless Martha for saving greek life
