Few People Rushing?

by: frosh

I saw that in the two mandatory IFC zooms, there were only a total of around 350 people rushing. With so few people rushing, will it be easier this spring to get bids from higher-ranked houses, or about the same as in previous years?

Dont know about the specific zoom rooms, know plenty of people who missed meetings. older brother in a frat said around 420 or so kids registered so still plenty of kids.

no not really, rush will be exactly as it has been. The top/upper frats will get the same dirty rush kids they always do. The uppermid/mid have also generally consistently taken 13+ PCs for the past few years.

The greeklife rush decline is impacting the lower mid and below frats. The social aspect of these frats is p much nonexistent. In 2012-2015, frats like PhiDelt, DTD, Beta used to still consistently pull 20+ PCs. However, with the squeeze they are losing numbers significantly. The squeeze is impacting the lower/bottom frats. When rush numbers dwindle to 200-250 (which they probably will in 5-10 years) than the mids will get squeezed and so forth. At the same time the top/upper frats will start to decline in quality as fewer kids rush. A mid frat in 2010 would easily be upper/upper mid now due to how much the quality has gone down (source: bro who was in a top/upper back then)

yeah really blows. My bro was here from 2010-2014 and was mad disappointed with what has happened to greeklife now. Being here in 2010 must have been crazy. 1000+ guys rushing with 25/40 houses who all consistently took 15+ guys with 2 fewer sororities which meant mixers were even harder. 5 or 7 frats with upwards of 100 guys. Also far more athletes involved in greeklife then. My prediction is that in another decade by 2030, all the lower.bottom houses are gonna be gone with their houses either bought out or empty. Than the squeeze on frats like KSig, AGR, Sammy will start and they will be wiped out in another 3-4 years and then the C4 Mids will get wiped.

yup, heard multiple times that admin is considering making on-campus housing for sophomores a requirement (especially after they finish the new housing on North).

It'll wreck houses financially.

tbh I think it will actually lowkey make it stronger. It is basically going to incentize juniors and seniors to live in house so they get that experience. What it will really do is destroy annex culture as the most common track for guys is to live in house sophomore year, some stay for junior and then some live in the nicer areas of Ctown, and then seniors live in annexes. It will basically wreck that as I personally/most people I know would not live in the annex without having that one year of peace lol .

Why? sophomores will be allowed to live in Greek houses which should actually help rush numbers

^did you fools read anything correctly?
Admin is considering making on-campus (dorms) housing required for sophomores as well (ie: sophomores will have to live in dorms)- this is feasible now that Cornell is building all those extra dorms on North Campus.

Then, sophomores won't be allowed at all to live in Greek-houses... because they'll be required to live on West or in the new-dorms on North
