gonna give an honest answer to this.
When I rushed, I was not dirty rushed initially (in an upper/upper mid house) hard, but I got really close with a couple of older guys in the house I ultimately joined from an activity which led to them pulling me through and ultimately everyone else vibed with me enough to see me in.
However, for this particular rush, dirty rush is going to be of much more importance in the past. The relevant houses (C4 Mid and above) will all have a fair selection of guys to choose from because most kids are going to rush off of greekrank this year. With Fiji gone (and they don't have the clout of Sig Chi to pull a strong underground PC), the C4 mid frats basically have an additional 25 guys to disperse amongst them. I think while rush numbers are down overall most relevant houses (aside from Pike, Chi Psi, DX - houses known for giving bids just to get a higher quantity), still more or less have the ability to pick who they want within the tier.
With fewer parties to meet freshies from, frats will no doubt prefer to stick to kids they really know or kids that really make an impression. No one really wants to risk taking an odd guy.
Basically what I would do differently is really spread my rush out. Rush from upper mid (realistically won't crack top or upper + Chi Phi/Chi Psi/DX) to C4 Mids. I rushed the mids with my friends and the frat I joined and got lucky and got into a "higher tier" house but I am still close with my friends who all joined C4 Mids.
As far as events go, what everyone is talking about is night events at frat annexes. Normally during Oweek, frats will throw parties at their annexes in Ctown but that was not a thing this year. There will be rush events at annexes where you will just kick it with the bros. Those basically start from the night of meet the greeks and go on throughout the duration of rush. The earlier you get invited the better it is because it means the frat is viewing you as a top pick.
