Is SAE coming back?

The university needs to approve any recolonization plan, and they've been happy to move the goalposts constantly. That makes it excruciating financially and emotionally, and the national would rather put its expansion money entering a big Southern state school where they can get 100 guys just by showing up, rather than fight their way back into Cornell.
Cornell has only has two recolonizations after a generational absence in the last decade, Deke and Pike. Both houses have some fanatical alumni, and it still took them like 5 years. Chi Psi came back after two years, but arguably they never really dissolved. TKE managed to come back, then shot themselves in the foot, doing the same thing that got them kicked off the first time.
SigNu, SAE, and Llenroc will probably manage it sooner or later given their strong alumni. But I don't think small nationals like AXP or TEP will ever come back. Can't speculate about SigEp, but it does seem like ATO and Theta Chi have given up, having sold off their houses.

I think what people are not realizing is that the environment is far more unfavorable to return now than it ever was. OSFL, IFC all need to vote from what I know and have heard to let frats in. Why would they let in frats given how much rush numbers are decreasing and rush is becoming so much more competitive (from a numbers perspective) for mid and above frats.

Yeah a frat needs to be formally voted back into the IFC. ALM was the last frat to do it I think, and it helped them that they were a niche frat and did not really compete for mainstream rushes. People really don't realize that most frats on campus, particularly lower mid and below do not more frats on campus because they will get reamed in rush. It is a bold thought, but I really don't think people realize that it is not difficult to recolonize, but it is difficult to get recognition, both university and IFC.

Exactly this, why would lower and bottom frats (e.g Beta, Phi Delt, DTD etc. ) that used to pull 18+ PCs quite consistently even as lower frats vote to add frats after their numbers have dwindled significantly during rush.

"PiKapp, PhiTau, KappaSig, SigPi, and PSK have all recolonized within the last 20 years" OK, so literally more than a lifetime ago for a freshman, a frat came back after being gone 3 or more years. Good for them I guess, not relevant for 2021.
ZBT recolonized, but they were only off campus for a year, and that's a different situation from ATO or SAE being gone for a decade.

It’s much more frequent. PiKapp, PhiTau, KappaSig, SigPi, and PSK have all recolonized within the last 20 years after being previously dissolved. And ATO didn’t sell their house, they’re renting it to students and they’ve submitted a request to return to campus so it’s only a matter of time. Same with SAE and SigNu, they’ve already applied to return. Llenroc will definitely return, they still have active guys and own their house. SigEp doesn’t own their house, but they got strong alumni and a lot of them, they’ll likely be back soon in a couple years.
