Some light on the mid frats
by: TheInformer
After the sammy post, thought I would shed some light on the 4 mid frats which I guess are now being referred to as the Core 4 of the Mid Tier amongst fraternities at Cornell.
Probably will have anywhere from 100-150 guys checking them out, higher end for Pike, PiKapp, lower end for Phi Tau, PSK. All of them generally have good relations with low mid srats (AXO, AEPhi, KD). Pike and PiKapp have stronger relations with DDD, AxiD, and Pi Phi although Phi Tau and PSK can generally also get a few DDD and AXiD mixers with Pi Phi limited to multis or none at all. Generally more packed in second contacts as dudes who get cut from upper and upper mid houses because they did not fit there come over and try their luck here. Reccomend rushing all 4 if u rush mid.
Pike: very sporty house, has a lot of club rugby kids with a few other sports interspread. Largest house in the tier but that is also due to the fact they also go to bid for numbers instead of focusing on quality. Quite normal of them to drop 30+ bids to amass a massive pledge class. Worked for PC19 when they got 26 but did not work last year. Frattiest/Rowdiest of the tier along with PiKapp. On the most part, cool guys but get brought down a bit by the fact that they bid some guys for the numbers which leads to a weaker brohood. Strongest class is by far their juniors. Generally the strongest relations of the tier.
PiKapp - most stagnant frat of this tier. Literally has not moved from the position it was in 10 years ago. Good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. Also bids a lot of guys but not as much as Pike. Generally very rowdy and fratty as well. Has very strong relations with AXiD and gets them for every big event (slope day, homecoming etc). Good group of guys, but in general gets lifted up a lot by their seniors as their recent classes have not been as good compared to them.
Phi Tau - very wholesome, very sweet, soft chill group of guys. Probably the best phi tau has ever been on campus as they were a lower/bottom frat 10 years ago but have really stuck to their brand of being soft chillers and have moved up the ranks since. Opts to give fewer bids e.g 25ish and takes smaller classes of 13-18 but in turn probably has the closest and least divided brotherhood of the tier. Very large (20+) and a very good senior class that is graduating so that might change. Known to be a very safe and nice house to sororities. But do not throwdown that hard and are seen as kinda boring if truth be told. But all the same have good sorority relations.
PSK- similar to phi tau very nice guys in this house. Had a lot of trouble over the past few years with SoPro and hazing issues. But rebounded with a good spring class, largest of the tier taking top rushes from Phi Tau and Pike. Can be seen as the middleground between Pike/PiKapp and Phi Tau as they are nice and not hella fratty but still throwdown quite hard. SoPro has taken a toll on them however as they once used to be upper mid back in 2015. All the same good house with strong relations with low mid and mid tier srats. Current sophomores are probably their best class.

Interesting notes on best classes for each house in these descriptions. From what I know about these frats and their respective reps, Pikes Juniors and Phi Tau seniors are probably tied for the best class of this tier (both 23+ and quality guys). Along with Pi Kapp seniors, probably borderline upper mid and mid.

Would add tho freshmen who're legitimately cool guys who don't make it to top houses can try their luck at houses like ChiPhi, TDX and Lambda. They're less selective than top, bit more selective than mid, and generally have better srat relations.
