by: frosh

I'm a freshman who wants to rush in the spring and after seeing the posts abt toxicity in greek life I'm wondering what exactly is frat culture like at Cornell?

Honestly, it depends on the house you join. Frats are generally super close but certain brotherhoods arent. Also, if you join a house like DX, AD, or Sig Pi (maybe even Chi Psi till the seniors leave) expect to get disliked for your house cause all three have a bad rep with most of Greek life.

Frat culture varies from tier to tier. Generally the higher a frat is the more typical frat/preppy they are. However, lower/bottom houses tend to have very strong brotherhoods as well. Amongst relevant houses (mid and above), the houses with the strongest and tightest brotherhood are Sig Phi and Phi Tau (top and mid respectively) because they take very similar dudes (in the sense, that they both have a certain type of guy they like) for the most part. In general though frats are very much closer than sororities and seniors do not deactivate very often (unless for financial reasons).
