Frats that are preppy/rowdy?

by: Frosh

I was wondering if there are any frats on campus that have both a preppy as well as a hardo/rowdy vibe. I know sigphi is probably the most preppy/Ivy League, but I’ve heard they tend to be a soft house. Which houses have both?

And just to follow up, which houses in each tier match these vibes? I’m looking to rush a bunch of different houses across tiers so I have more options.

Basically anything in top or upper tier. SX and DU are a lot of boarding school kids that throw down. AD is international wealth and they go pretty hard too. SigPhi and SigPi are more soft than fratty, but still party harder than a lot of mid tier.

ChiPhi = suburban guys that throw down hard, lot's of high school wrestlers and football players that like to drink and workout
ChiPsi = mixed bag, some boarding school dudes, some city boys, some suburban guys -- half drink fairly hard the other half are kind of soft
Lambda = used to be very fratty, but recently lot's of chill golf guys, not particularly wealthy or preppy
DX = very preppy and some wealth, very soft though

Yeah generally the lower you go the less "preppy" and more average suburban dude type a house will be. You will find plenty of prep school kids even in lower to lower mid frats but it is not really enough to impact the culture of a frat.

If you look at the frat heirarchy, the lower the frat is ranked means on the whole it has fewer boarding school or international rich kids and is less rowdy at parties. There'll be rich and rowdy kids in pretty much every frat, but the % shrinks the lower you go. SX or DU are pretty much all wealthy and hard partiers, whereas a bottom house like ZPsi has like two wealthy kids and only the pledge master that goes hard.

What about "preppy" not literally as in prep school kids, but just overall preppy vibes? Like your typical image of a "frat"?

Most of cornell greeklife is preppy, it's not much of a distinguishing factor. At every frat you should expect to see lot's of Vineyard Vines, Brooks Brothers, Fratagonia.

there is a difference between preppy and being what you describe as fratty. Inherently frats that are very preppy/old money/prep school vibes tend to be the frattiest. SX/DU/Sig Phi are all varying degrees of fratty. Same distinction between being rowdy and soft. Sig Phi is very fratty in terms of the personality they have but are not very rowdy compared to DU and SX

Also you will see during rush that while there are a good amount of engineers/CS/architecture kids, greeklife is extremely AEM/Hotel/ILR/Arts and Sciences majors who tend to be able to seperate work/school from their personalities a lot easier.
