dear all frat event goers:

by: Frat perspective

Throughout my years at Cornell, it is so shocking to see so many men and women feel so entitled to get inside an event that they were not invited to. Fraternities hold liability and provide beverages for these events and are under strict guidelines with police and the university. If you get denied at the door, please stop getting upset with us as it’s nothing personal. It’s just we have rules we have to follow. Keep breaking in and messing with Greek Life events and eventually the university will destroy us as a group and there will be no more events for your enjoyment. Thanks for your cooperation.

Everyone is getting screwed by IFC just because kids who get denied at the door don’t leave and form a mass outside the house. Just go

If literally feels like nobody trying to get into a party realizes it’s a liability thing. It gets said a lot but that’s because it’s true, especially with all the tragedies happening this semester - brothers are more scared than ever to throw parties because obviously we’re responsible for whatever happens, and being responsible for strangers is scary. This semester if you weren’t invited to a party the chances of getting in are small bc of that, and idk why everyone takes it so personally

I've read multiple comments that frats only allow those who are white/rich/girls/good looking into there parties. There is no evidence to back this outrageous claim. For one, it's just not practical. When 20+ people are pushing to get in, it's just impossible to nitpick who we want in and who we don't. Secondly, frats give out a specific number of bands to be passed along to members' friends. Quite often, even our friends who were given bands have a difficult time getting in because there are so many people. If my friend is standing outside waiting to get in, do you think I'm going to let in some random person before my friend is inside? No. Furthermore, we WANT all kinds of people to come to our parties. There are multiple reasons why. We want people to spread the word and talk about how "lit" our party was so that it makes us look good. Also, we're looking for people who may be interested in rushing, come the appropriate time. I cannot stress the amount of liability we carry, and letting in random people is very risky. We don't know who you are, what you are capable of, how much you've drunk already (unless visible), whether you'll respect our house, etc. More often than not, the people who pass out, or drink a dangerous amount, or steal from us, are people we don't know. Those people don't know us and don't care or know about the consequences that their actions pose for us. Regardless of who you are or what you look like, we will always prioritize our friends. Please come to our parties. If you get turned away from the door, do not take it personally or be rude, we are simply looking out for our safety.

As you can tell in the current phi psi case, the president and the people in the fraternity are extremely worried about the situation and whether or not it was their fault or not, if the person was at their house they are liable, now it wasn’t some stranger necessarily, however if it was at a party and some random person trying to get in, the fraternity much rather would prefer to stay on campus and not have to deal with potential legal issues and potentially having their life ruined, because some person, who has no association to the organization, having fun is a very small priority, vs. the possibility of legal trouble/potentially prison. Please stop making such a big deal about fraternities rejecting you at the door because if it were the other way around and some people you don’t know tried to get in the place you live that you would have to be responsible for, you would probably react the same way, especially if the random persons actions could eventually lead to the end of your organization or even much harsher forms of punishment
