sorority
by: IdkSo I went through spring recruitment with this particular sorority (not saying which but may be obvious idk) let me point out I've NEVER been the type of person to throw out race or get offended about things to do with race but during the whole time I felt like every girl just looked over me and didn't care about what I had to say or care to even get to know me. I tried putting myself out there and talking to the girls but none of them seemed interested to get to know me. I got dropped from this sorority and one of my friends in the sorority says it may have been because I'm black (I'm not even full black) I just figured I didn't have a connection with any of the girls or something. I just found it weird how they took girls who have taken bids from other sororities and some girls that are seniors that are graduating this spring. I'm an outgoing person, born and raised in the south with a pretty strong southern accent and never had trouble making friends or anything I just wanted to get involved on campus. I still really want to join a sorority in the fall but I'm afraid I will get dropped just because I am black. Again, not saying this is the reason but I've heard a lot of rumors about people getting dropped due to the color of their skin. It kind of hurts my feelings knowing this could've been the reason that I wasn't able to join a sorority. What do yall think about it?

The first comment doesn't make any sense. Race never crossed my mind until a girl in the sorority (who happens to be white) told me that may have been the reason. I was just wondering if that occurs often because I've seen race been brought up about Greek life so many times.

Sorry but that's just how greek life doesn't discriminate against color. Especially sororities that participated in spring Rush. If you didn't get a bid you didn't fit the qualities of what the members were looking for. Just because you have a southern accent doesn't mean anything and you obviously don't have good supportive friends if you were told you didn't get a bid because of your skin color. Spring recruitment took girls of all races so I'm sorry if you just didn't fit in. Your personality will fit in elsewhere. That's why spring recruitment is probably best for you because more sororities may feel a better connection with you. You just probably didn't fit in it wasn't because you were black so don't go into fall recruitment with the attitude that people will pick you or not based on that.
