Honest question about APhi

I swear this isn’t an attack, I’m just genuinely curious what happened to APhi this rush…? My house doesn’t really compete with them, so I don’t follow them closely, but their exec is clearly in full damage control mode rn trying to hide what is arguably the worst rush in my 3 years at UGA so far… and they’ve already had several new members drop since bid day.
But I thought they were like upper mid tier but even the lower mid houses clearly got way better PCs somehow?! Seriously take a look at APhi’s tagged posts on ig if you don’t already know what’s going on-the only houses they out recruited this year were AXiD, DPhiE and SDT.
So I’m genuinely curious wtf happened because it’s legitimately shocking. If I saw their PC without context I would have thought we were looking at dg or pi phi

I mean I love my new sisters! They all seem really fun and yah I get that our social media rules about bid day are kinda harsh, but that doesn’t mean they’re trying to do damage control about me or anyone else in my pledge class… plus I love that they’re trying to promote diversity unlike most of the other old stuffy SEC sororities.

Not an APhi, and I only know a few (who I am not close to).
My theory: 1. I think Aphi cut too many girls early on based on looks criteria, thinking they could compete with houses like AOPi/DDD/ZTA, then had girls rank them lower in the later rounds.
2. I think the APhi propaganda machine over did it leading up to recruitment. PNMs looking at this site (and on yik yak) saw APHi being put on the same level as DDD/ZTA and above AXO/GPhi/SK. Then when they actually met the APhi's in person the PNM's saw the hype didn't match reality. (I have heard this from several girls after recruitment ended)

Person mentioned a culture shift. Well Georgia is getting 50k applicants a year and that raises the bar on academics. Well that can also result in UGA getting dare I say a little nerdier compared to classes before. I’m not saying they are stereotypical nerds but they have interests that earlier students at UGA did not have.

Excellent point about UGA students being smart. Plus, being surrounded by women with a wide variety of interests and aspirations is such a good thing. Hot girls don’t have to lean into the “dumb blonde” trope, and that’s where Alpha Phi gets it so wrong.

Aphi got one of my favorite girls. But she was cut early from some great srats. Either way, they are lucky to have her.
Aphi needs to work on their rep at UGA. They lean into a certain image so they get those type of girls and the rest are usually girls other houses cut first.

Someone mentioned the “dumb blonde” trope previously in this comment section and I have to agree. I feel like they are trying so hard to push this narrative as the new “fun and hot sorority”(no offense but being blonde doesn’t make you hot. They got here in 2017 and although they continue to deny it, the socials with old row come out of their dues. I’ve met some sweet girls and not so sweet girls in aphi, but I feel like them trying to push this narrative just completely alienates themselves from Greek life . They have no respect for people in other sororities and think they are above everyone. Several girls from pc 26 already dropped. It’s kind of sad to see the girls I like being brought down with the reputation, but they are seen as a whole.

I’m glad u mentioned how they basically buy unofficial socials because that’s one of their main selling points, and PNMs (and other lower/mid tier sororities) need to be aware of how fake it is.
Like we all know what body part frat bros think with, and I guarantee you that even the higher tier frats would agree to hang out with the any of the 20 sororities here in a heartbeat if it wasn’t coming out of their budget and they were basically promised they’d get s3x for showing up…
Alpha phi makes it their goal to have some “interaction” with every single frat except for the literally bottom tier ones with 30 guys each year, and that’s the only reason they can claim to have “socials” with some decent frats…
