rushing as a sophomore???
by: lmnopokay. I just finished freshman year, and I rushed, but ended up dropping cuz I only preffed one house and didn't like it. All my friends joined sororities, which made me feel super isolated, so i decided i am rushing next year as well. what is it like rushing as a sophomore, and is it easier like ive heard or is that all lies. i am so scared, so any advice is appreciated because i did everything wrong this year. All my houses I really want aren't terribly competitive (no old row), but I dont know anyone in them. what are my chances at getting them? I am not sure if i want to join the one i have the most friends in, because we have been distant lately, and i want to build something for myself.

You have nothing to lose by rushing a second time. In some ways you should have an advantage over freshmen, because you’ve rushed once and know what the process is like. That should help you be more at ease during the parties. You know what to wear, what to say, etc.
I imagine that you have a much better idea of which house(s) you would feel more comfortable and could expect to receive a bid from. I hope you do, because being realistic about your best chances up your odds of getting a bid.
You and your sorority friends might have grown apart because they were busy. Sororities do take time. If they are local friends, and you’re all back home, it would be in your best interest to reach out to them over the summer. I bet they will be excited to learn you are going to rerush. They might be able to offer their own perspectives into rush. They can let their friends in other houses know they have a friend who will be rushing again. If anyone asks why you didn’t pledge just tell them as the process went on you became more and more confused, so you thought it was best to drop out, and you’re looking forward to rerushing. Put a positive spin on it. Do NOT say you were down to one house and didn’t want to join them. Good luck.
