A fraternity's social budget is the main thing the members' dues go to. A far second part of the budget goes to house upkeep. Fraternities that are well-established run their finances well, have a surplus, and aren't struggling.
Alumni do NOT donate to a fraternity's party budget or the yearly budget or just randomly donate without a reason. They donate to the building fund if there is a capital campaign or to some other specific need.
