Needing genuine advice about COB/rushing as soph

by: Help

Im a freshman & I went to a chapter during round 2 who told me based on what I’m looking for in a sorority and my values that I would be a perfect fit. I was told this by both girls I spoke to. I didn’t get them back for house tours which really disappointed me bc they were the only chapter I felt like I could see myself in. I genuinely did not feel as comfortable in any other house that did invite me back and no conversation was as easy as the ones with this other chapter. I did decide to withdraw from formal recruitment, but I’m definitely interested in COB. Is there any way of knowing which sororities will participate in COB in advance or do I just have to trust the process with this? Or would my chances of connecting with any sorority be better if I just get involved this year and make sure to get my name out there & rush as a sophomore? This is me seriously asking, not looking for anyone telling me I’ve made a terrible decision pls!

Chapters that COB are the ones that have fallen below whatever panhellenic sets as Chapter Total. It will be set right after bid day and again beginning next semester. Fall COB will be AXiD and DPhiE because they are still establishing and building their numbers, and SDT because it is a small chapter that always has room but they only want high gpa girls. Other sororities will offer spring bids after December graduations but not many at all. Chapters that ony have a few bids to offer don't announce COB because they already know who they want to offer them to. If you get to know sorority members your chance for a COB is much better. If that doesn't work out then do rush again in the fall. So sorry this recruitment didn't go as well as you wanted. Hang in there.

I would say still look at the srats in COB and Spring too. Spring is no guarantee you get a bid and yes it will most likely considered "lower tier" on GR but it is a chance to get investigate them further. It does not hurt to meet them.

Like you said during formal rush you only talk with a few girls at each house. It is not much to go on. So much is perception based on talking to others, greek rank, or just the superficial side of things.

It is always disappointing to get cut and sorry fall rush did not work out. But it is about finding the right fit but I am saying give everyone a chance as you are taking some time to look closer. Cause you might be surprised to find you fit better at a place you had not considered.

It is hard not to fall for one place. But when you do it really limits you. My advice is to take this time to really get an understanding of what the different sororities are really like. See if you can meet some members or pledges of ones your interested in. If you get to know some then next year you have a better chance of getting an offer. But keep your grades up. You don't want that to get you.
