Aphi needs to do better...

I just find it funny that most of the black girls in APhi never seem to make it to their senior year. It also seems they all always have a story or two about why they dropped. Aphi has been pushing out women of color for years now. If you go to their Instagram, you will find almost none make it to their final year before fleeing for their lives. Turns out if your complexion is any darker than an iced latte, you'll get the boot before they are forced to post you too many times on their winter wonderland feed. This pattern warrants concern about whether a safe environment is actually being created for my darker-skinned queens. Microaggressions, whether intentional or not, are soo last century. Maybe if the bottled blondes bothered to have genuine, consistent interactions with others who don't always fit their cookie-cutter mold of white, rich, and Eurocentric ideals, there would be more diversity in the chapter. Do better, Aphi. It is easy to do what is wrong and hard to do what is right. Do not find yourself so wrapped up in the adrenaline rush of validation and popularity that you forget that being a bystander is just as bad as being a bully, if not worse. You say you are a sisterhood. This is true only if unity does not depend on the color of another. After all, it is action, not just words, that matters in the end.
