Concord University - CU Overview

  About Greek Life at CU

Concord University is a small public liberal arts school tucked in the mountains of Athens, West Virginia, and its Greek system reflects that smaller campus feel. There are four fraternities and four sororities operating here, organized under IFC and Panhellenic councils. It's not a massive system, but it's a consistent presence on campus and has been for years.

The chapters here include Phi Sigma Phi, Pi Kappa Phi, Sigma Tau Gamma, and Tau Kappa Epsilon on the fraternity side, with Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Sigma Tau, Delta Zeta, and Sigma Sigma Sigma representing Panhellenic. These are all established national organizations, so members have access to the broader alumni networks and programming that come with that affiliation.

At a school Concord's size, Greek life tends to be more intimate than what you'd see at a large state university. Rush and recruitment aren't the sprawling, weeks-long productions you'd find at a flagship school — the process is generally more low-key and personal, which some students actually prefer. You get to know people pretty quickly.

Concord doesn't have the kind of Greek Row you'd see at bigger schools. Chapter housing situations vary, and social events tend to spread across campus rather than being concentrated in one area. Philanthropy and community service are a consistent thread across most chapters, which is pretty standard for national organizations at schools this size.

Greek life here exists alongside a lot of other student organizations and activities, so it's one part of the social fabric rather than the dominant force it might be at a larger institution. Students who go Greek tend to be genuinely involved, and the smaller membership sizes mean you're not just a number in your chapter.
