Wake Forest University - WFU Overview

  About Greek Life at WFU

Wake Forest is a smaller private university in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and its Greek system reflects that intimate campus feel — it's a real presence in student social life without being the overwhelming centerpiece it might be at a big state school. The undergraduate population is around 5,000, so Greek life here feels more personal and close-knit than what you'd find at an SEC flagship.

Chapters are organized under a few councils. IFC covers the traditional men's fraternities, Panhellenic oversees the women's sororities, and NPHC represents the historically Black fraternities and sororities on campus. There's a solid mix of organizations across all of these councils, from well-known national names like Sigma Chi, Pi Kappa Alpha, and Kappa Alpha Order on the fraternity side, to Chi Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Kappa Delta among the sororities. NPHC orgs including Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Kappa Alpha Psi, and Phi Beta Sigma also have a presence here.

Recruitment for IFC and Panhellenic follows a fairly standard structure. Women's formal recruitment happens in the fall and is a structured, multi-round process. Men's recruitment tends to be more informal and spread out over a longer period. A meaningful chunk of the student body does end up going Greek, so it's genuinely part of how social life is organized on campus, especially on weekends.

One thing to know about WFU is that fraternities don't have standalone chapter houses the way they might at a larger school. Instead, chapters typically use on-campus spaces for events and gatherings. Philanthropy is a consistent part of Greek culture here — chapters across all councils put real effort into fundraising and service events throughout the year.

The discussion activity and ratings on this site give you a decent sense of how engaged the community is, and WFU's Greek scene generates a fair amount of conversation. For a school its size, the system covers a wide range of organizations and council types.
