Saint Louis University - SLU Overview

  About Greek Life at SLU

Saint Louis University is a mid-size Jesuit university in the heart of St. Louis, and its Greek system reflects that setting — present, active, and connected to the broader campus community without dominating it. This isn't a school where Greek life is the default social scene, but it's a real part of campus life for the students who get involved.

The system runs through two main governing bodies: the Interfraternity Council (IFC), which oversees the fraternities, and the Panhellenic Council, which covers the sororities. Between the two, there's a solid collection of chapters representing both nationally recognized organizations and a few with deeper roots in Catholic and Jesuit university culture, like Alpha Delta Gamma. Fraternities represented include Beta Theta Pi, Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Phi Kappa Theta, and Sigma Tau Gamma. On the Panhellenic side, you've got Alpha Delta Pi, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Delta, Sigma Kappa, Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Phi Mu.

One thing to know upfront: SLU doesn't have a traditional Greek Row with chapter houses. Most chapters operate without residential houses, which changes the dynamic compared to big state schools. Social events and chapter life happen through rented spaces, campus facilities, and off-campus venues around the city rather than out of a house on a designated strip.

Recruitment typically follows a structured format — formal Panhellenic recruitment in the fall and a more informal IFC rush process. Because the school itself isn't enormous, the process tends to feel more personal than at large flagship universities. Philanthropy is a genuine focus across chapters here, which fits with SLU's broader emphasis on service and community engagement rooted in its Jesuit identity.

Overall, it's a smaller Greek community relative to what you'd find at a major state school, but the chapters that are here are active, and members tend to be pretty invested in what their organizations are doing both socially and in terms of giving back to the St. Louis area.
