Should I drop??
by: hmmGoing into my junior year and I don't have anything against my sorority, but I'm going to have to start paying for it myself and idk if it's worth it at this point. I feel like I've already made all my friends that I'm going to from it. The reasons I don't wanna drop is because I feel like I'm gonna get fomo seeing my friends go to our events and stuff, and I'd also want to keep putting it on my college resume. Idk if those are good enough reasons to justify 2k a year, I also just like being in one just to be in one iykwim. But yeah, any opinions or advice are appreciated!!

Once you drop, you’re done. You can not be a member in good standing with your Nationals which means you won’t be an alumna. I know right now you’re just thinking about right now, but you will most likely regret it when you’re older. Being in the local alumna groups can be very fun. My mom still does a lot of activities with her alumna group. She’s made lots of different friends through it as well because it’s women from all ages and from different universities. And alumna dues are cheap. I think my mom pays a $40 annual membership fee.

The alum connections can be really helpful (not just for job net-working but for a number of things AFTER you graduate). Also, putting down you involvement in the sorority on your resume, but then dropping could be really awkward if you get an interview and they ask you about your work within the chapter.

I was on the fence about going through recruitment at A&M. Let’s be real, A&M is not known for its Greek life! But I wanted to be a part of a large national network and chose a sorority that has strong alums. It’s a tight group and these ladies are powerhouses in my city. Hang in there, girl, you’ve made it halfway.

Talk to your exec about maybe going inactive for a semester or two. Explain your financial situation. Some sororities have financial aid, believe it or not. That way you get a little break from paying dues without dropping. No shame in that. Lots of girls are in your shoes, including some in the “rich” sororities that you’d never suspect. Very common.
