maximize options... is it a thing or not?

I've read several posts where people have said maximizing your options is not a thing anymore at A&M.
Yet the Recruitment Guide says something like... Regarding Pref: "PNMs who maximize their options are guaranteed a bid."
So what has changed?

Nothing has changed regarding bids being guaranteed for all pnms who attend pref and list every chapter whose pref they attended on their pref card.
People posting otherwise are either misinformed or just intentionally spreading rumors. I also think a handful of girls lie to save face every year - "I didn't get a bid because they aren't guaranteed anymore" even though they suicided and their friends believe that and repeat it as truth.
I think the only thing that has changed in recent years is that if you match as a Quota Addition, you are now added to the smallest chapter whose pref you attended. You used to get your #1 choice as a reward for maximizing.

@Confused - you would never know if you matched as a QA, just that you got a bid. That's why it's SO important to maximize your options on pref because you never know where you are on either house's bid list- you could match during quota or as a QA but if you don't maximize and you don't match during quota, no bid for you.
