truth in joining a sorority
by: AggieGirl
When you go through Recruitment, you will have a preconceived notion of where you think you will go. The reality will probably be different. Here is some solid advice as the week starts and goes on....
1: The tier system is dumb. EVERY chapter has beautiful girls, awkward girls, religious girls, etc.
2: You are meeting the actives, but as the week rolls on, pay more attention to the girls you are going into the house with. These girls are who will be making up your pledge class. These are the girls most likely to become your new group of best friends, so pay attention to that!! It's also the group that helps define the current reputation of the chapter.
3: Regardless of where you wind up, keep an open mind. EVERY chapter offers the same experience, just in their own way. You will be a part of chapter meetings, pledge-in, inititiation and ritual, big/little sis stuff, paddle pass, crush parties, date parties, frat parties, formals, etc.
4: You will have leadership opportunities that yes, will help you adult in the real world. Also, living and working with a large group of diverse girls will help you adult in the real world.
5: As a member of Panhellenic and the larger Greek community, no one will really care about what chapter you joined. You will be more likely to talk about experiences as a Greek, people you know in other chapters, etc.
Bottom line: Don't put a bunch of stock into the stuff on here or tent talk. Your experience is what YOU make of it.

#2!!! look at the girls getting invited back!! during recruitment, I disliked many of the girls going back to the house I wanted the most. what do you know, they ended up being my pledge class, and my feelings for them didn't change. remember that you'll interact the most with your pledge class, NOT the upperclassman who rushed you and is graduating in a year
