rushing questions

by: New student

Okay so I have a few questions about the sorority rushing process. I'm really new to everything so please bear with me :)
1) are letters of rec totally necessary? My area doesn't have a Panhellenic so it's going to be really hard to find an alumni for every sorority.
2) I heard that it's considered "dirty rush" to like any pictures of sorority girls that have followed you in the past during the summer. Is that true?
3) is early move in worth it to start rush?
Any answer to these questions will help lol thanks!

1. Yes. Find other ways to contact alums.
2. No. Dirty rushing is when sosrotity girls try to convince you to go their sorority before rush starts/ talk bad about other sororities to you before or during rush/ or communicate with you during silence. Silence starts a little before rush and you may not be in communication with actives during this time. Liking insta pics is not dirty rushing. Even if it's during silence, you're not going to get in trouble for liking Instagram pictures.
3. Yes. Totally worth it.

1) Get letters of rec!! My sorority is required to drop you if you don't and that's SUCH a shame because we really do love each and every one of you!
2) Nope! Just don't contact them May & after if you normally wouldn't! That means if you are friends you can hang & talk until silence- which is work week I believe!
3) SO WORTH IT. It will make your life so much easier!!!

1. Yes, you need recs. Several chapters are required by their nationals to pledge pnms with recs - no rec, no chance. You don't need a Panhellenic to get recs. I got all mine lined up without using my hometown Panhellenic. The best quality recs are from women who actually know you vs some random Panhellenic lady.

Start TODAY and ask every woman in your life if she was in a sorority. I bet you'll be surprised to learn that your favorite teacher or lifelong next door neighbor is Greek. Here are some suggestions:
-teachers, coaches, principals, etc.
-church ladies
-neighbors
-your friends' mothers, grandmothers, and older sisters
-your mom/grandma's friends
-women you know from volunteering or working part time
-women whose families you've babysat

If you get stuck and can't find recs to the last couple of houses, then and only then post this on Facebook and tag your mom/grandma so their friends see the post too: "I'm so excited to go through sorority recruitment at Texas A&M this fall. I am still in need of a recommendation letter to ABC and XYZ. Please let me know if you are able to help!"

2. No, that is not dirty rushing. Dirty rushing is when sorority women have contact with pnms after the "silence" period begins this summer, or when they promise you a bid to their house (i.e., "I can't wait for you to be my Lil Sis" or "you're definitely getting a bid because everyone adores you!")

3. Yes, move in early!!
