hi

by: Pnm

do you have to know someone in a top house to join? I'm coming in as a freshman next fall with my friend. Her sister is in a top house so it's almost positive she'll get in. I don't care about being in the same house but honestly feel like I would fit well in those houses. I'm fairly attractive, skinny, and my parents are mildly successful from and upper class community. Please no hate, I don't know anyone that goes here and is involved with Greek life. Thanks!

Your friend will have a sitting sister. Her rush will most likely be very different from yours.

Perhaps you will fit with those houses or perhaps you will connect better with mid or lower tier ones. You won't know unless you are open, friendly, can carry a good convo and make others feel comfortable, have great grades and talents that a chapter may be looking for (dancer, singer, etc). Honestly, being skinny, attractive, with successful parents does not make you a stand out from the hundreds of other PMNs. .

Good luck with rush!

I hope that when you go through recruitment, it's clear that EVERY house is looking for much more than skinny, attractive, rich girls. I'm sad that your perception of sorority life is that those are the top three criteria we look for in members.

I'd spend the rest of your senior year thinking about who you really are and what you could possibly bring to a sorority. Are you funny and always able to cheer up your friends? Are you a natural leader and involved with running several organizations? Are you compassionate and have a heart for serving others through volunteer work and philanthropy? Are you academically focused and able to help improve a chapter's GPA? Are you super social and have a desire to make a lot of friends in and out of the Greek system? Are you creative and excited to lend your talents to your future chapter?

Spend some more time focusing on your inside- not your outside. That's what we're evaluating when we're trying to figure out which PNMs will fit best in each of our houses. Even "top tier".

It depends on what you consider "top"
You have a good chance of ending up in the same sorority as your friend if your friends sister knows and likes you. Some of the top sororities base recruitment almost entirely off of personal recommendations from active members.
If you consder Tridelt, kappa, and zeta top, which most do, you can be nearly garunteed a spot in zeta if you are infact a pretty girl and do well during rush. You don't have to know anyone in zeta to get in. They care much more about your social media, the short convos you have during rush, and your looks. (Not saying any of that is bad it's just different from other top houses)
With Tridelt and kappa you basically have to know someone, or atleast have an active know about you. Even if you have a great rush in these houses, they will outweigh your good conversations with another actives personal recommendation of a Rushie. You NEED someone to vouch for you Bc it's so competitive.

Chio and dg are good too just not typically called top. Chio is more like Tridelt and kappa but also takes girls that no one knew of beforehand while dg is more like zeta but also takes recommendations more into consideration.

Hope this helps. Try and get some connections to actives, but DO NOT be weird about it!! They will totally know if that's what you're trying to do. Be chill. Get good recs and have a bubbly and talkative personality during rush. Even Tridelt and kappa take some girls they don't know every once in a while.

"Top houses" don't exist. They're all good, just have slightly different personalities.
