Stephens College - SC Overview

  About Greek Life at SC

Stephens College is a small, historically women's college in Columbia, Missouri, and its Greek community reflects that intimate scale. There's no IFC presence here — no fraternities — so what you're working with is a Panhellenic setup with two active sororities: Kappa Delta and Sigma Sigma Sigma. That's the full picture, and it's a pretty tight-knit one.

Because the student body itself is small, the Greek system isn't the kind of sprawling, campus-dominating thing you'd see at a large state school. It's more of a niche community within an already close campus. That said, Panhellenic sororities at a school like this tend to have a different feel than they do at bigger universities — membership can mean a lot more face time with your chapter sisters just by virtue of how small everything is.

Recruitment at a school this size is generally more low-key than the formal, multi-round recruitment weeks you'd see at places like Mizzou just down the road. The process tends to be more personal and less overwhelming, which works for some people and feels too quiet for others who were expecting a bigger production.

Columbia is a college town with a solid social scene, partly driven by the University of Missouri nearby, but Stephens has its own distinct culture that leans into arts, fashion, equestrian programs, and a strong sense of community among its students. Greek life here exists alongside that culture rather than sitting at the center of it. Philanthropy and sisterhood events are part of what both chapters bring to campus, consistent with what KD and Tri Sigma do nationally.

Chapter housing follows whatever arrangements are available on a campus this size — don't expect the big Greek Row you'd find at a flagship state university. The community is smaller, more personal, and shaped heavily by the overall character of Stephens itself.
