St. Thomas Aquinas College - STAC Overview

  About Greek Life at STAC

St. Thomas Aquinas College is a small Catholic liberal arts school in Sparkill, New York, sitting just about 20 miles north of Manhattan in Rockland County. With a relatively small undergraduate population, the college has an intimate campus feel, and that carries over into how Greek life operates here.

The Greek community at STAC is on the smaller side. Phi Iota Alpha, one of the oldest Latino fraternities in the country and historically a part of the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO), is the active presence on campus. Founded in 1931, Phi Iota Alpha — also known as PhiΙΑ — has a long history nationally, with chapters at schools across the country. At STAC, it represents the fraternal side of campus life.

There's no IFC, Panhellenic, or NPHC council structure operating here the way you'd see at a large state school. This isn't uncommon for smaller private colleges in the Northeast, where Greek life tends to be more of a niche part of campus culture than a dominant social force. Social life at STAC is generally shaped more by residence life, clubs, athletics, and the proximity to New York City than by a large Greek infrastructure.

Don't expect Greek Row or chapter houses — that's pretty standard for a campus of this size and type in this region. Recruitment and membership intake at schools like this tend to be more personal and relationship-driven than the formal rush weeks you'd find at bigger universities. Phi Iota Alpha chapters typically emphasize brotherhood, Latino heritage, and community service as central to their identity, which is consistent with the organization's national mission.

Overall, this is a smaller Greek community that reflects the college itself — close-knit and community-oriented rather than large-scale.
