Metropolitan College of New York - MCNY Overview

  About Greek Life at MCNY

Metropolitan College of New York is a small, nontraditional commuter school in Manhattan, and that context shapes pretty much everything about how Greek life works there. MCNY primarily serves working adults, career-changers, and students balancing jobs and families alongside their coursework — so the social infrastructure here looks really different from a traditional residential campus.

The Greek presence at MCNY falls under the NPHC umbrella, with Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and Zeta Phi Beta sorority representing the school's fraternities and sororities. These two organizations have a long history nationally as sister and brother organizations, so their presence together on a campus makes sense. NPHC chapters typically operate differently from IFC or Panhellenic orgs — membership intake is more structured and selective, and the culture is centered around service, scholarship, and community engagement rather than the kind of social programming you might associate with big state school Greek life.

There are no chapter houses here. MCNY itself doesn't have residential housing in the traditional sense, so the idea of a Greek Row or house parties tied to chapter addresses just isn't part of the picture. Chapters organize through campus space and community connections instead.

Given the size and commuter nature of the school, this is a smaller, more intimate Greek community. That said, NPHC organizations tend to maintain strong connections to their national chapters and broader alumni networks, which can extend the reach of membership well beyond what's happening on any single campus. Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta both have active graduate chapters throughout New York City, so the community around these letters is bigger than what you'd see just looking at the school itself.
