rush week
by: hjrYesterday i had all the houses i wanted and today i have only 2 left and they aren’t my first choices but not bad houses... I am confused and upset as to why i wasn’t asked back. Is it really that bad to drop out of rush? Will i be shunned if i don’t join a house :(

Some of my friends that weren’t involved in Greeklife found it very difficult to make friends because it’s such a big part of OU.
Try seeking the positives on the 2 houses you have left but if you truly don’t see yourself in either, there are plenty of other orgs to get involved in.

Being Greek is great. But no one shuns anyone for not being greek. Being in a sorority is great though, would def recommend it. There are hundreds of girls in each group. You can find your people no matter which group you are in. But as said above, if you know you will drop, do it earlier than later, don't take someone else's spot. It is competitive to get a bid at OU because they are all great. Some girls end up without any invites to Pref. It is sad, and they would be grateful to be in your shoes.

The invitations you have are the houses that liked you enough to see you again. If you want to be part of Greek life they are your options. The houses that didn't invite you back are not going to magically have a space for you if you drop out and you can't count on getting a snap bid or open rush bid from a group you like. You probably didn't do anything in particular to make the other houses drop you; they may have had too many legacies, or your grades weren't high enough, or your conversation wasn't memorable enough, or you didn't have someone already in the house pulling for you. OU has a great Greek system, and each house has about 300 or so members. If you can't find a connection in any house then the problem is you, not them.

Tbh, most of what pnms see (and think they know) about houses before and during recruitment is what OTHER PEOPLE have told them. When you're going through you're so tired and overstimulated that you are kind of reacting to each house in a preconceived way. One of my friends had a decent recruitment until all at once she just had one house left. She almost dropped out because she'd heard it was the "lowest" house at OU. She decided to stick with it and credits her experience with her sisters for her amazing experience in college. She said that no one knows how wonderful a house is until you've experienced being a part of it. I'd say start looking for the good in the two houses you have left. Choose one and then make the most of your experience. It's true that no one involved in greek life is judgey about the tier of your house. They're really all good just different and the "lowest" house has really good people, just like the "top" house. There are good and bad girls in each house and you just need to go into your experience and make friends with the girls that are like you. I promise you'll find them. Good luck and God bless you.
