I'm coming from out of state (california) and was wondering how important letters of rec are? I know that they are definitely helpful and I'm getting a few, but for those houses that a don't have letters for, will I still have a chance at getting a bid?

Yes, you need recs for every house. At least all the ones that are competitive. I recently read some girl on here say her house doesn't need recs but I've heard that all of them require recs so better safe than sorry.
