recs
by: pnmis it better to contact the oxford area panhellenic or your local states' panhellenic for recs?
#2 by: What?!?!
NEITHER!! You - with the help of your mother- need to find women who actually know you and/or your family to write your recs. The must be alumnae of the sororities we have at Ole Miss, but do not have to be written by Ole Miss alumnae- ie, a Theta from Missouri or a UVA DG can write your recs.
Absolutely do NOT approach your local Panhellenic until uou have exhausted ALL options for tracking down women from each sorority. Ask all your teachers, friends' moms & sisters & grandmothers, women from church or your neighbors, etc. If you have almost all your recs but can't find a KD one, then start asking the women who wrote your recs for other houses if they know a KD who wouldn't mind writing yours. Sorority women know sorority women!
The reason for finding personal recs (vs asking local Panhellenic some random alumna will write one for you) is that the sororities actually read them and one written by someone who clearly knows you well is always better than an "info only" rec. Some chapters are wary of "info only" recs- does the alumna not think this pnm would be a good fit for her sorority, but was too polite to say no when the pnm asked? "Info only" usually guarantees you'll get asked to round 2 because you have a rec on file, but it can't help you any further than that..
